Contra Electric Propulsion Ltd., have concluded initial discussions with MARIN TM of USA regarding the design and manufacture of a neutrally buoyant, battery powered, subsea hydrodynamic excavation unit for deep water deployment (1,000m +) on Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV’s).
The new battery powered tool will be based on the design of the original BTE 80 hydraulic unit shown in the image here.
The unit will be designed for general excavation work such as removing drill cuttings from well heads and drilling templates, pipeline and cable trenching and deburial work. The machine will feature a contra rotating propeller arrangement designed to remove all thrust and torque forces during operation so that ROV can perform excavation works in a free swimming (dynamically positioned) mode.
