CEP Ltd, have completed initial power train commissioning and calibration of the instruments package on the converted GTM LIBRA electric sports car.
The GTM Libra, has been modified to test the CRPS and propeller assembly. The tests were carried out at Gloucestershire Airport over a three day period. See photo.
Preliminary analysis of the data stream shows that the contra rotating propeller assembly produces 15% more thrust than the sum of the two propellers operated separately at the same power. Another extremely exciting result was that the contra rotating propellers operated in reverse produced 75% of the thrust recorded ahead. The propellers are the first to be designed specifically to be operated in reverse (they are fixed pitch) and were manufactured by Hercules Propellers Ltd in partnership with CEP Ltd and with UK Government funding through NATEP.
These features herald an exciting prospect for GA and high performance aerobatic aircraft.
